Those Who have Walked in Our Future Steps

Those Who have Walked in Our Future Steps

For a new path I have yet to begin, I look to those who have already walked in these future steps and seek their Godly advice.

“Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.” Prov. 19:20

When walking in faith to what God has called us to do, it is important to seek mentors, encouragers; those who have gone before us.

For example, those who are dating, look to the people who have gone before you.

  • For those who are newly married, 2 years in, 5 years in…
  • For those who are in a job, out of a job or even job-seeking….
  • For those who are new to homemaking or even those who must balance homemaking with a job…
  • For those single moms who must work for their kiddos or even those who are married and staying home with their kids…
  • For those who are entering an empty nest stage or retirement…
  • For those who just went through loss or hardship…and lost everything….
  • For those who have gone through health struggles…
  • For those who have been bullied…
  • For those who were the bullies but have turned their life around…

….look to those who have gone before you.

They have an arsenal of wisdom and encouragement to help you along your way.

I find the best route for this is waiting for God to put someone on your heart/mind…or, like in my case, pray that the “someone” reaches out to you. This happened to me because I had a difficult time trusting others; so, I prayed the “someone” would contact me instead…and they did.

Be careful though, to whom you look to for guidance. Because some are for your journey, and some are not (this advice was given to me from a woman I see as a mentor).

I had no doubt God was pointing our lives together after that and now we’ve been very good friends through the ups and downs in life. We’ve gone for impromptu car rides together, then cried together, been vulnerable and encouraged each other. I would encourage you though, to not be a “scaredy cat” like I was, and take a chance on reaching out to that “someone” God is pointing you to—first. 😉

In addition, may we look back on our own journey of how far we’ve come; what we’ve overcome and be that encourager/mentor to those who are just starting out on their own similar path.
